From the supplier: New York Insurance Superintendent Salvatore Curiale and present and former Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield Assn executives vigorously denied charges of wrongdoing at a Senate investigation of Empire's almost bankrupt financial status. However, the denials lost credibility when Empire VP of Auditing Maroa Valez charged that CFO Jerry Weissman had changed community rated business figures on the orders of former CEO Albert A. Cardone. Weissman and Cardone denied both Valez's charges and former VP Joan Boyle's accusation that Empire kept two sets of accounting figures.
